Alaska Airlines has completed the transition to exclusively serving drinks in paper cups, which the company says will eliminate 55 million plastic cups a year. It’s an idea that could only be cooked up in a kitchen. Feed the Mass, a Portland nonprofit that empowers, educates, and serves the community through food, is teaming up with local, well-known chefs for a series of FED Talks.
At these intimate, three-course dinners, guests will support the organization’s mission and get a chance to interact with some of the city’s brightest culinary minds.

The night started with his grandma’s buttermilk biscuits recipe (slathered in apple butter), smoked catfish on crackers, and pimento cheese tea sandwiches. Next was braised rabbit hindquarter on white cheddar grits, with his chocolaty take on chess pie for dessert.
Editor’s pick: In a recent PDXtoday team meeting, we discussed how people give directions in the city. Do you use Portland landmarks or stick with neighborhoods? Maybe you measure everything from Burnside? Or is it, “You know, across from that Plaid Pantry”?
