Have you ever wondered where the “X” in “PDX” comes from? The designation lifted off in the 1940s, when the International Air Transport Association had to transition from two to three letter codes due to an increase in airports (and a shortage in distinct codes), so the letter X simply became a placeholder. ✈️ (KGW)

Last week, Beaverton Mayor Lacey Beaty raised the Juneteenth flag outside of City Hall for the first time ever, in honor of the federal holiday that recognizes June 19, 1865, as the effective end of slavery in the US.
According to the flag’s designerBen Haith, the banner symbolizes citizenship + new beginnings, with callbacks to the news of the Emancipation Proclamation arriving in Galveston, Texas — the Lone Star State. Its colors are also a reminder. “For so long, our ancestors weren’t considered citizens of this country. But realistically, and technically, they were citizens,” he told Capital B.
