In our best Schonz voice — and now, your Portland Traaail Blaaazers.

Today, the NBA regular season officially begins, and Rip City is looking to get red hot and rolling right out of the gates under second-year head coach Chauncey Billups.

So, we’re passing you the ball, along with some keys to the upcoming 2022-2023 season.

It’s about Dame time ⏰

It feels like forever since we’ve seen Damian Lillard play meaningful basketball, but after undergoing abdominal surgery for a chronic injury, he’s healthy + ready to lead a retooled roster put together by new general manager Joe Cronin. Oh, and you can throw those trade rumors in the Willamette.

1, 2, 3... Team! đŸ€

If you’re just coming out of the stupor induced by last year’s 27-55 record and the tank-a-palooza (we lost a lot to get better), you’ll find several familiar faces and some new talent with decidedly PNW flair.

Portland-born, two-way forward Jerami Grant was added in a trade with Detroit, and Oregon State alum Gary Payton II will add some offensive (and hopefully defensive) firepower. Keep an eye on Josh Hart as a breakout player, and see if No. 6 draft pick Shaedon Sharpe can contribute early.

How everyone gels will be critical to reaching the playoffs.

  • We have good news — we could be in for a wet weekend. But that doesn’t change the fact that this month (we’re calling it Hot-ober) has seen all kinds of records broken. It was 87° at the airport last Saturday; Portland simply has never been warmer this late in the year. đŸŒĄïž (KOIN)

Legacy

  • Ever wondered if pumpkins float? Well, turns out they do, even with a human aboard. On Sunday, Tualatin Lake at the Commons hosted the 18th annual West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta. Contestants dressed as nuns, pirates, and everything in between raced to finish the course as fast as possible. 🎃 (The Oregonian/Oregon Live)

Candy crushing pet peeves

Check your kid’s candy for Portland pet peeves

A stack of candy bars has photos of a clothes line, driving, and umbrella overlaid.
Gives us chills just thinking about these. | Photo via Wikimedia and Pexels
Be safe out there, parents, and make sure to do a candy check this Halloween. đŸ«

For instance, we found several things Portlanders are allergic to in these chocolate bars: umbrellas, correctly completing a zipper merge, or you know, clothing. Scary stuff. đŸ˜±

Okay, yeah, we know this is a returning meme, and maybe we spend wayyy too much time on the internet, but still... safety first.

Have you found any Portland-specific potential poisons in your treats this year? If so, drop us a line. No more tricks, we promise. 🎃
THE WRAP

Today’s issue was written by Ben.

Editor’s pick: For better or worse, I am a die-hard Blazers fan, and this season... I’m ready to be hurt again. Whenever I’m sad, I just revisit all of Dame’s buzzer beaters and get a warm, fuzzy feeling.
