For the 38th year in a row, a Douglas fir tree has made its way to Pioneer Courthouse Square. 🌲
The tree — donated by the Oregon-based Stimson Lumber Company — stands 75 ft tall and weighs 8,500 pounds. Stimson Lumber Company has harvested and delivered downtown Portland’s Christmas tree for 21 years.
While the tree is standing proudly downtown, it’s still awaiting decorations, including more than 14,000 colorful LED lights. The tree’s arrival marks the start of the holiday season and “a more joyous time of year” for many Portlanders. 🎄
Gather around the tree with Santa on Friday, Nov. 25 for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony — which was held virtually in past COVID-19 pandemic years — from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The event features Santa flipping the light switch + a sing-along with Thomas Lauderdale from Pink Martini, chorale singers, and other local musicians. 🎶
