Every good story needs a soundtrack, and ours is no exception. We could just pick one — but you know we love a deep dive.
Every Noise at Once is Spotify’s algorithmically generated scatter plot of music genres, from “German dark minimal techno” to “neo-trad doom metal” to “classical saxophone quartet,” and literally everything in between.
Here’s where Every Noise sorts some of our favorite local artists, plus national acts from the same genre — perfect for your hike of the month.

This month, Multnomah Whiskey Library raises a glass to Women’s History Month by satisfying people’s thirst with a first. It will contribute $1 or more from every single cocktail listed on every menu, including in The Green Room, to organizations and nonprofits specializing in environmental and social justice.
It’s the biggest expansion yet for the cocktail donation program, which has given more than $55,000 since it started in mid-2021.
The membership-based bar’s current lineup pops with exclusive drinks crafted by eight women, representing Portland’s rising stars and best mixology minds, led by MLW’s lead bartender Cody Mulcahy.
During our visit, we tried the rum and passionfruit forward Midnight at the Oasis; The Forager, crafted with vodka, apple brandy, marionberry, and egg white; Waving, Smiling, a toasted coconut bourbon with hints of date; and Say Quaaaat?! — an Irish whiskey and amontillado sherry concoction. All were delicious.
You can now lay eyes on a notorious section of Northwest Cornelius Pass Road before you even get in your car. Two new cameras, accessed via TripCheck, show the steep S-curve between St. Helens Road and Skyline Boulevard. Officials hope it will improve safety in an area often snarled by winter weather. (KOIN)
Sports
As the Thorns approach their NWSL season debut, the league’s commissioner Jessica Berman has announced that the vetting process for the club’s potential new owners is in “advanced stages.” She was also resolute in the fact that neither Portland (nor Chicago) should worry about their franchises moving to a different city. Community
Multnomah County Library goers, take note. The North Portland branch will close for renovations (including a new cultural center) on Wednesday, April 5. It joins other locations that recently closed for wide-ranging improvements like the Downtown Central and Albina branches. (OPB)
Mark the first Saturday of the next four months; Portland Bureau of Transportation is organizing SW Strolls, a chance for neighbors to get out and get to know each other on a walk. Participants can join the 1.2-mile urban trail on route A, the 1.8-mile paved path of route B, or both.
Read
“My Powerful Hair” is a children’s book about the US’ oppression of Indigenous peoples and their resilience and cultures. On Sunday, March 26, author Carole Lindstrom and illustrator Steph Littlebird will make stops at Two Rivers Bookstore and Pittock Mansion, where Littlebird also curated Indigenous art exhibit “This IS Kalapuyan Land.” (Portland Tribune)
Plan Ahead
Serious culinary star power will descend on Willamette Valley wine country this summer. Ōkta chef Matthew Lightner will host several Michelin chefs for a five-course tasting menu on Saturday, June 24, and Solstice in the Fields at the restaurant’s nearby farm the following day. Reservations go on sale Friday, March 31. (Portland Monthly)
Feel Good
Two local dogs did their best cat impersonations last week by falling down holes — in two separate incidents — and coming out no worse for wear. Portland firefighters first responded to a call about a sinkhole in a North Portland yard, followed by an accident involving a manhole misstep. (OPB)
Wellness
What’s in: red light therapy. What’s out: forms of treatment that are painful and invasive. Red light therapy is non-invasive and painless, and evidence suggests it may be able to ease body aches, heal sun damage, and build collagen. Brb — we’re adding this easy-to-prop light and this facial massager to our Amazon cart.
Last Friday, I checked off a few bars on the Portland bucket list.
Our spontaneous night on the town led us to Paddy’s 14th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival, where we saw Irish dancers, bagpipers, and a pretty convincing Bono lookalike (he sounded great too). Then we went over to Kelly’s Olympian, where we took in the dazzling neon signs and posed for some happy snaps in the photo booth.
