How to celebrate baseball with Copa de la Diversión

Minor League Baseball fans know that baseball season means it’s time for Copa de la Diversión (or “Fun Cup”) — a season-long event series designed to “connect teams with their local US Hispanic communities.”

For special games and events, the Hillsboro Hops transform into Los Soñadores de Hillsboro — meaning “The Dreamers.” Why? ¡Porque todos somos soñadores!

Copa de la Diversión began in 2017 with four teams in Charlotte, Durham, Visalia, and Las Vegas. The next year, it expanded to 33 teams and added a little competition.

The Hops will host the Latino Cultural Festival on Sunday, June 4, 2023.

This year, 90 MiLB teams will compete to be crowned campeón based on ballpark experience, community engagement, and philanthropic impact. Who are the reigning champs, you ask? Los Soñadores de Hillsboro, por supuesto.

Help them win again by attending events and cheering them on at one of these three upcoming games:
Just be sure you’re representing your team in style.

Details, such as the exact border of this zero-emission delivery zone, are yet to be finalized, but the plan will go into effect in 2024. (KGW)
Coming Soon
  • Well... Heck. That’s the name of a planned completely non-alcoholic brewery, the first of its kind in the PNW. The project comes from the team behind zero-proof cocktail concept Suckerpunch and will start with an IPA and a lager, which you can taste at future pop-ups. (Eater Portland)

  • Hollywood’s got nothing on the City of Roses. Production for the upcoming Portland-shot movie “Little Wing” will close some lanes on the Hawthorne Bridge this weekend, from 8:30 a.m., Saturday, April 29 until 1 a.m., Sunday, April 30. “Kubla Khan Again”

Forget your misfit poetry, / cast out the traffic and machine.
Have bitter rose magnolia / rain sugar on the lawn.
Remember that queer / swanky condor prince,
the changing river magic / in this ancient pleasure dome.
Dream of drag and smoke / in Portland as it was.

I’ve been itching to take my kayak out and it looks like the year’s first window to do so, and not turn to ice or get drenched, will be this weekend. Smith and Bybee Wetlands Natural Area is at the top of my places to paddle bucket list, so I’m excited to finally cross it off.
