It’s time for the three Bs: brats, beer, and baseball. This summer’s season is packed full of games and events. From fun initiatives like Copa de la Diversión and Wedding Night, the summer is just heating up for the Hops.
About the team
The Hillsboro Hops are members of the Northwest League as an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. They began as the Yakima Bears in Yakima, Washington, and moved to Hillsboro in 2013 when they became the Hops. Nowadays, the team is managed by Veronica Gajownik, the first openly LGBTQ+ manager in the minor or major leagues.

Fee-fi-fo-fum, this is the art of a Danishman
Fee-fi-fo-fum: A troll is coming to Nordic Northwest

In folklore, trolls are beings imbued with natural magic, possessing bodies of stone and craggy faces covered in dirt and moss. The whimsical creatures serve as inspiration for Danish environmental artist Thomas Dambo, whose towering troll sculptures can be found around the world, from Australia to Northern Ireland.
Soon, Portland will be home to one of his pieces. Together with the Scan Design Foundation, the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, and other partners, Dambo will bring his “Northwest Trolls: Way of the Bird King” exhibition to the Pacific Northwest this summer.
The first figure will be constructed in the wetlands beside Nordic Northwest in the Metzger neighborhood, where visitors will be able to visit it down a gravel path. Each troll (five will be in Washington) will be made completely with recycled materials, interact with its surroundings, and stay for at least three years. Work is slated to finish in September.
As you fire up the grill this summer, Portland Monthly has the definitive and frankly delicious list of hot dogs to throw on the barbie. The old-fashioned wieners from Otto’s Sausage Kitchen took the top spot as the best locally made beef-forward dog, just in case you were wondering.
