Downtown Portland’s parking options will be a bit skimpier after Friday, Aug. 18, when PBOT plans to close the SmartPark garage at Southwest Third Avenue and Alder Street indefinitely. The decision to slash the 830 spaces stems from a drastic decline in its use. Four other SmartPark garages remain in the area. (The Oregonian/Oregon Live)

Kids and kids-at-heart, get ready. The “World’s Largest Bounce House” is bringing inflation — the good kind — to Portland International Raceway from Saturday, Sept. 16 to Sunday, Sept. 24.
At its center, The Big Bounce America’s main castle stands 32 ft tall, covering 16,000 sqft. Then there are the three other inflatables that make up the springy spectacle, presented by XL Event Lab.
“Inside you’ll find giant slides, ball pits, climbing towers and basketball hoops alongside fun, friendly, over-sized characters of various colors, shapes and sizes for those all-important Instagram moments,” the company said in a release.
There will also be age-specific sessions, with time for toddlers and their caretakers, juniors (7 and younger), bigger kids (15 and younger), and adults only (16 and older). Tickets are now available online and range from $22-$45.
On Friday, I joined Nordic Northwest in Southwest Portland for the unveiling of Thomas Dambo’s troll sculpture, made almost entirely from recycled materials like pallets and nails. It’s the first installation of his “Northwest Trolls: Way of the Bird King” project, which will see five more of the fabled creatures constructed in Washington. Here’s a sneak peek.
