Put your best foot forward as part of the Portland Pedestrian Advisory Committee

If you like...
Long walks on Couch
The sight of a blinking crosswalk sign
Getting where you’re going safely
... then the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) could use your help.
Pedestrian deaths in the city are on the rise, despite 42% of our roadways seeing an average driver speed under 25 mph. To tackle this and other problems, it’s hard to beat having boots on the ground, and that’s where you come in.
PBOT is now accepting applications for its Pedestrian Advisory Committee (PAC), a group of 15 community members who will meet monthly to discuss “all matters that encourage and enhance walking as a means of transportation, recreation, wellness, and environmental enhancement.”
The PAC will provide input to City Council and other city government departments on transportation policies, programs like Vision Zero, and projects like Building a Better 82nd.
Other than a passion for pedestrian safety, applicants should have good communication skills and availability on the third Thursday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. The following attributes will also factor into selections:
Understanding of transportation and urban design issues
Geographic diversity across Portland
Experience in economic development, disability advocacy, racial justice, recreation, youth engagement, and other areas of interest
Being relatively new to participating on civic committees
Ability to listen and consider other perspectives
Applications are due by Nov. 19, 2023. Candidates will be notified about a month or two later, with the first meeting taking place on Jan. 18, 2024. You can email PAC Staff Liaison Gena Gastaldi with any questions.

OSU didn’t appear to have any web-footed rivals in this competition. City Editor Cambrie, who once attended OSU, is fine with that. On the other side of the gourd, City Editor Ben (a UO alum) is quacking mad.
Congratulations, Amber — your gourd was the people’s pick of the patch.
I’ll be at the Blazers’ game tomorrow and I keep going back and forth on where to eat/drink beforehand. Fire on the Mountain has been on my mind for a week, but part of me really wants to check out Sit Tite for its pasta and patio vibes. Not to mention Upright Brewing is also on my list. I may need multiple trips...
