🏙️ Sightseeing
Is it even a trip to Portland without seeing Forest Park? While you’re in the area, you can swing by Pittock Mansion for the perfect holiday family photo. And if there are any animal lovers in the group, head to the Oregon Zoo to see 1-year-old orangutan Jolene, basketball-playing otters, elephants, and more.
Produce Row in Southeast Portland is a gastropub with no shortage of festive cheer.
If your guests need a caffeine pick-me-up, Either/Or, Adapt Cafe, and Keeper Coffee are all offering a range of seasonal drinks. If you’re looking for a different kind of brew, the City of Roses is home to 70+ breweries with Great Notion and Wayfinder being two local hot spots.
If your visitors are ready for some outdoor fun, head into the Columbia River Gorge to see world-famous Multnomah Falls. Spend a few hours taking in the exhibits at one of the oldest art museums on the West Coast, the Portland Art Museum. And don’t forget to make a stop at Powell’s City of Books, the largest independent bookstore in the world.

Arts
Portland Art Museum has announced a lineup of new exhibitions showcasing a wide range of artistic expression in 2024. Dozens of futuristic sneaker designs will kick things off in March. In the summer, the Brooklyn Museum will loan nearly 60 works of art by French masters like Monet and Matisse.
Film
The Portland Jewish Film Festival returns Tuesday, Jan. 9 to Sunday, Jan. 14. Presented by the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education, the festival at PSU’s Lincoln Hall will screen five new full-length films and two shorts exploring “the complexity, history, and joy of Jewish life.”
Theater
The Portland Panto Players will continue sharing the British form of pantomime with the Rose City next month. Nine performances of “Sleeping Beauty” will be held at Lincoln High School’s new Cardinal Theater starting Saturday, Jan. 13. Expect singing, dancing, double-entendre humor, and audience interaction; all ages are welcome.
Closing
After 30 years of business, Sunny Han’s Wok and Grill in downtown Gresham will close this Saturday. Sunny and Judy Han opened the business in 1993 and are now ready to retire. A new family is set to take over and serve Cantonese food in the coming year. (KGW)

North Plains resident Jacquie Roar sang her heart out alongside Reba McEntire during the Season 24 finale of “The Voice” this week. After viewer votes were tallied, Roar finished fourth out of the five finalists, with McEntire singing her praises for giving it “110%.” (The Oregonian/Oregon Live)

A European drinks trade publication — The Drinks Business — has named Brooks Wine its 2023 Green Company of the Year. The Willamette Valley winery specializing in riesling was applauded for having “every eco-corner covered, from its hedge and tree planting projects to bottle light-weighting programmes and B-corp certified status.”

Santa Claus is coming to town, and so are his antlered friends. But how would they spend their time in Portland?
Before we get started, here’s a fun fact: Science suggests Santa’s reindeer are female, as males do not have their antlers at Christmas time. Let’s plan an itinerary for the girls while the big man does his whole chimney-climbing thing.

Dasher ain’t hangin’ around — she’s hitting the road.
Luckily for her, we came up with four fantastic road trips from the Portland area, including unparalleled scenery, thespian drama, and places to sip and savor Oregon fruit. Don’t be late, Dasher, or the sleigh will leave without you.

Comet has stargazing options just outside of Portland as long as the weather plays nice.
L.L. Stub Stewart State Park would most likely be her favorite spot, though the Columbia River Gorge’s Vista House also offers otherworldly views of the night sky.
