News Notes

Development
  • Portland International Airport’s new main terminal, the largest mass timber project in the US, is being hailed as a game changer for sustainability thanks to novel traceable supply chains and the Yakama Nation’s wisdom regarding forest management. (KGW)
Eat
  • Prix fixe menus often come with eyebrow-raising price tags, though compared to other foodie cities like New York or San Francisco, Portland’s set-price meals tend to stay in the $100 range. If you’re looking to splurge for a special occasion, restaurants like Langbaan, Quaintrelle, and others are a sure bet. (Eater Portland)
State
  • The Oregon State women’s basketball team beat Eastern Washington and Nebraska to move on to the Sweet 16, although the Portland Pilots were knocked out by Kansas State. The Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team fell to Creighton in double overtime. Keep up with the bracket and scores on the NCAA website.
Coming Soon
  • Trader Joe’s continues to expand in the Portland metro — this time announcing a store in Oak Grove (unincorporated Clackamas County) at 15574 SE McLoughlin Blvd. There’s no specific start date for the 20,000-sqft, former Dollar Tree site, however, the company’s website says it and other locations are expected to open in 2024. (The Oregonian/Oregon Live)
Number
  • $52 million. That’s how much the Oregon Community Foundation, James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation, and Oregon Legislature have committed toward local arts. Liam Kaas-Lentz, Portland Center Stage’s managing director, expects the company to receive nearly $2 million. (OPB)
Sports
  • Who will the Blazers set their sights on with the team’s NBA Draft Lottery pick(s)? Locked On host Mike Richman looked for clues in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Wellness
  • While the popularity of telehealth has many therapists moving to online only, the Couples Clinic of Portland still believes in the value of in-person therapy. They have therapists with current availability for both individual + couples counseling, including Josh Wilson and Megan Samsel. Schedule a free consultation with Josh or Megan.*

From the editor
Out with the old, in with the new, as is the springtime tradition — you may have noticed my new-look headshot, courtesy of my co-editor and fantastic photographer Cambrie. The old pic was from about 2020, so an update was definitely needed.
