🥂 Raise a glass, drop a deal

Cheers: We’re celebrating Drink Up Week — here’s how to join us

Three drinking vessels on a brown wood table: one contains brown colored liquid with pebble-like ice cubes, another holds a ruby red concoction with mint leaves and lemon peel, and the third is a rectangular-shaped glass with blue skulls and bamboo designs and an orchid garnish.

Clink, clink. We’d like to make a toast.

This summer — Monday, July 22-Friday, July 26 — we’ll be raising a glass to Drink Up Week, a celebration of entrepreneurs, mixologists, venues, and beverages across our buzzy city.

From coffee, tea, and smoothies to wine, craft beer, and specialty cocktails and mocktails — we’ll be covering it all in hopes of showcasing the Rose City’s vibrant drink culture.

Now, this is where you come in.

If you own a local beverage business or know someone who does, celebrate Drink Up Week with us by offering a fun drink deal or two to our readers — say 50% off margaritas, BOGO smoothies, or 20% off a beer flight (mix it up, we’re open to ideas). Drop your deal into this form by Friday, June 28 and our local city editors will include it in an interactive map of all the deals happening during Drink Up Week. There’s no charge to submit deals.

We’ll also highlight a few of the can’t-miss drink deals here in our newsletter. Want to make sure your drink special makes it in? You can guarantee inclusion by purchasing a paid content package.

Meanwhile, if you’re a reader who wants to experience Portland through Drink Up Week, sip tight. Before Drink Up rolls around, we’ll be working hard to pull together a list of local drink deals and fun stories about our city’s drink scene.

We want to know — is there a local business you’d love to see participate in Drink Up Week? Forward this newsletter to them and tell them we’d love it if they joined us.

Thirsty already? Check out some of our past Drink Up Week content — like the PDXtoday Coffee Crawl or our tour of a Northwest Portland distillery.

News Notes
Feel Good
  • Students in Camas had a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity last week. Camas High School graduate Dr. Michael Barratt video called the district from aboard the International Space Station. Barratt spent 25 minutes sharing some of his experiences — like what time zone he follows — and answered questions from eager kids. (KOIN)
Coming Soon
  • Aaron and Natalie Truong, the couple behind Hapa Pizza, will open a bar next door to the Beaverton pizzeria for local snack and dessert vendor pop-ups. Customers will also find wine and beer on tap, plus an outdoor dining area where you can order from either menu. Opening day is TBD. (Eater Portland)
Outdoors
  • Get a free life jacket and soak up important water safety information at Metro’s Aquafest, Saturday, June 29, at Blue Lake Regional Park’s Discovery Garden. Enjoy workshops, fishing, and games, and learn about protecting local waterways and safely enjoying them. Parking is $5 per car or $7 per bus or van.
Festival
  • The International Pinot Noir Celebration will uncork one final festival this July. The annual event showcasing local wines and food has been held at McMinnville’s Linfield University since 1987. Organizers said ticket sales haven’t recovered post-pandemic, but they hope a new form of the festival can return in 2025. (Portland Business Journal)
Wellness
  • Don’t let summer heat drain you. One scoop of Native Hydrate electrolyte drink mix = increased energy levels, improved muscle strength, and improved bladder function all season long.*
Correction
  • Under pressure, we made a mistake that did not rock you. The “Candlelight: A Tribute to Queen” event that appeared in Friday’s newsletter in fact took place in Portland, Maine. Somehow it made its way onto our website and past our edits. Will you still be our best friends?

The Buy
Summer snacks. Pack the cooler with our favorite beach + pool snacks to satisfy your cravings while soaking up the sun.

This is definitely not me, strongly encouraging you to submit Drink Up Week deal recommendations that involve local chai tea lattes or kombucha... but, ahem, please share them.
