Portlanders, grab your Viking horns, throw your “O,” or put on your black and orange — whomever you root for, football season is back and underway. Dive into all things game day with us to get rid of that off-season rust.
What everyone’s talking about:
PSU:
The Vikings left Week 1 at Autzen Stadium with a $575,000 check, a 74 point loss, and one cringe-worthy injury. But, with the season’s toughest test out of the way, quarterback Dante Chachere can build on the flashes of potential he showed during the team’s only touchdown drive.
UO:
Has anyone checked on Puddles? After a record-breaking rout (see above), the Ducks will travel to Lubbock, TX, to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders, a tough non-conference opponent led by a familiar face in former Oregon QB Tyler Shough.
OSU:
Clemson transfer QB DJ Uiagalelei shined in the season opening 42-17 win at San Jose State. Can the No. 16-ranked Beavers keep the momentum going on their “Pac-2 revenge tour” and pack the newly renovated Reser Stadium? *Chainsaws rev in the distance.*
In 2022, the Beavers finished 10-3 with a win in the Las Vegas Bowl. Can they reach greater heights?

Concerns stemming from a damaged footbridge and a failed restroom forced authorities to close it in 2021. Since then, crews have worked more than 1,000 hours to implement safety upgrades. They rerouted a portion of the path, took down dangerous trees, improved picnic areas, and installed two vault toilets.
All the materials — including heavy lumber, rebar, cable, and pipe — had to be carried by hand up the 3,290-ft summit. Due to vandalism and a lack of infrastructure, the primitive 10-site campground has been removed.
The 5.4-mile roundtrip hike offers views of rare wildflowers and vistas stretching from the Cascades to the ocean (if it’s not too foggy). To get there, drive west on Highway 26 about 1.5 hours from Portland. And don’t forget to bring plenty of water and proper footwear.
As an avid e-reader user, I love being able to check out books online through the Libby app, but sometimes the wait times can be a drag.
However, through the end of September, Washington County Cooperative Library Services is offering a flash sale where card holders can download titles from Pacific Northwest authors — like Michelle Zauner’s “Crying in H Mart” — immediately.
