News Notes
Number
  • $11 million. That’s how much the Federal Highway Administration awarded ODOT to help fund the completion of the Columbia River Highway Project by 2027. For years, Oregon has worked to restore the historic 73-mile route between Troutdale and The Dalles and create a “world-class bicycle and pedestrian experience.” (KOIN + BikePortland)
Stat
  • Ambulance crews were unable to respond to 2,834 “Level Zero” 911 calls this past January in Multnomah County. Level Zero calls, in which crews are tied up with other emergencies, saw average wait times of 31 minutes before dispatchers could assign an American Medical Response team. (KGW)
Eat
  • Time Out recently asked people across the globe to rate the quality and affordability of their city’s food scene, then used the results to create a roundup of the 20 best destinations. The Rose City was the only US food mecca to make the cut. We’re living the dream, foodies. (Time Out)
Outdoors
  • Oregon has the highest rate of wildlife-vehicle collisions on the West Coast — but now there’s something you can do about it. The iNaturalist Roadkills of Oregon project lets people send reports and photos of roadkill to state biologists, helping them map hotspots and inform state officials where to take action.
Sports
  • The Trail Blazers are holding their initial draft workouts of the off-season, getting a closer look at some potential second round targets. Get the biggest stories every day from the local Rip City experts with Locked On’s daily podcasts.
Wellness
  • Want to attend couples counseling but you live on the other side of the river? Are you + your partner long distance, or separated due to work obligations? Licensing prevents most therapists from working with out-of-state clients, but the Couples Clinic of Portland can help. Email couplesclinicpdx@gmail.com to learn more.*
