Portland’s new WNBA team has named its first employee. Inky Son, a previous executive with the National Basketball Players Association, is the team’s new president. Team owner Lisa Bhathal Merage said she believes Son will help reaffirm Portland as the global epicenter of women’s sports. (KGW 8)

Award

Some delicious news we’re digging into — four Portland restaurants + industry professionals have been named as James Beard finalists. Coquine is moving forward for Outstanding Restaurant, JinJu Patisserie for Outstanding Bakery, Scotch Lounge for Outstanding Bar, and Nodoguro’s Ryan Roadhouse for best regional chef.

Development

The Portland Bureau of Transportation has released the summary of all the feedback it got about its proposed Broadway Pave and Paint project along with the final site plans. The project plans to add five new pedestrian crossings, reduced speed limit, wider bike lanes, and bus stop improvements.

Travel

All aboard — Amtrak Cascades has received its new Amfleet train cars and will begin restoring its regular service after mechanical issues were found on its other trains. While the regularly scheduled trips will return, some trains may have fewer cars. (KGW 8)

Spanish fashion brand Mango opened its first Oregon store in Pioneer Place, with a second location set to open in Tigard sometime soon. The elevated casual wear brand started its US expansion in 2022. (Portland Business Journal)
