Portland’s oldest TriMet MAX train officially retired on Tuesday after 39 years in business. The train, which traveled about 2.2 million miles over the course of its lifetime, has been donated to the Oregon Electric Railway Museum for preservation. (Portland Tribune)
Closing
Gresham craft store Knitted Wit will close next month after nearly two decades in business. Customers will be able to shop at a discount through Saturday, Aug. 16, and the store’s weekly “Crafternoon” and “Second Sunday School” events will continue until then. (The Oregonian)

The Oregon Zoo has some new residents: California condor chicks. Nine of the critically endangered birds were hatched in the zoo’s Jonsson Center for Wildlife, with two more eggs sent to hatch in Boise, Idaho. After about a year and eight months, the chicks will be released into the wild.

Portland International Airport travelers left their shoes on through the TSA checkpoint for the first time in nearly 20 years this week.
