The City of Portland recently announced plans to more than double the number of trees it plants each year — that will amount to about 10,000 trees annually by 2028. The Urban Forestry Division will prioritize areas currently lacking in shade, like Kenton, Cathedral Park, and Powellhurst. (KOIN)

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center will close permanently in November due to consistently low patient occupancy. The unit was empty for 155 days in 2024, serving just over 120 patients all year. (KGW)
