Temperature

Think warm. This winter, Portland has a 50-60% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.

Precipitation

It could go either way. Portland has equal chances of seeing below-, near-, or above-average snow and rainfall totals this winter.

Drought

Probabilities show that the Willamette Valley south of Portland will continue to see drought conditions but also improve, with areas to the east seeing removal of drought.

Dive into December

Generally, December is the wettest month of the year in Portland, with an average of 5.77 inches of precipitation. However, climate scientists predict there is a 95% chance that El Niño conditions persist through the winter, which historically keeps things drier in Oregon. We’re crossing our fingers for local ski resorts .

January is just cold

During this month, the average high and low temps are between 47.5° and 36.2°, but considering the milder trend, there may be extra opportunities to get out and hike . Trigger warning to victims of the last ice-pocalypse, but at least one area meteorologist is predicting a higher chance of a freezing rain storm .

February feels frozen

Average temperatures fluctuate between 51.5° and 36.8° throughout February, which makes it an ideal time to enjoy indoor events like the Portland Jazz Festival or FAN EXPO Portland . You may have love in your eyes, but you won’t have to worry about the sun — the average UV index of 2 poses a low threat to health.
