Two years ago, a bar dedicated exclusively to women’s sports opened in Northeast Portland. Each game playing on the bar’s TVs and every team flag decorating its walls sends a clear message: if you’re interested in women’s sports, you’re in the right place.
The Sports Bra was a novel concept when it launched. Today, it has a devout following — and the support of some heavy hitters.
Founder and CEO Jenny Nguyen said they intend to expand the bar’s concept across the US. Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit and husband to Serena Williams, and the 776 Foundation will help fund The Sports Bra’s expansion. Details like when new locations will open — and where — have not been announced. The Sports Bra intends to invest all returns back into girls’ and women’s sports.
“When I first opened The Sports Bra two years ago this month, I had no idea the impact it would have on so many so quickly,” Nguyen told KGW. “Now I can see we’re just getting started.”
