Tulips to the horizon.

In the City of Roses, it’s obvious what our favorite flower is, but just 40 minutes south of Portland, a different bloom enjoys its time in the spotlight (if not always the sunlight).

That’s right, the annual Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival returns for its 40th year from March 22 to May 5, inviting visitors to roam 40 colorful acres and more than 1 million flowers (that’s 100+ varieties, too).

But before you depart for this Dutch-inspired dreamland, here are some things to know.

  • Admission is per person and includes parking, but is only available online. Entry is permitted during the chosen time, but there is no limit on how long you can stay.
  • Peak bloom is predicted for the first two weeks of April, but stay tuned for more current updates .

Feast your eyes on more activities , from hot air balloon rides to farm tours and steam tractor demonstrations. There will also be a Wooden Shoe TulipFest Run on Saturday, March 23.
