- The Isle of Portland , United Kingdom: Connected to the mainland by a tombolo , residents of this small island off the southern England coast pride themselves on their sailing heritage; crews take to the waters every year to compete in races. The small community is tightly-knit and shares quirky traditions, like not saying the word “rabbit” because of the associated taboo .
- Portland , Maine: Our namesake on the East Coast is many travelers’ favorite seafood destination — not to mention an ideal spot to spend a summer weekend, with its pristine beaches and incredible views peppered throughout the city.
