That’s... a lot of tubas.

What is a collection of tubists called? A tubular? Maybe a tuba-extravaganza? Whatever the word is, we have to imagine that Portland’s annual Tuba Christmas is the largest meeting of musicians who play this instrument — the lowest pitched in the brass family — during the entire year.

Now, to get down to brass tacks, this event (that’s featured as many as 300 tubas in the past) has brought lovers of sonorous songs + holiday cheer together for a free concert around the city’s Christmas tree for three decades. Thankfully, they choose to perform in Portland’s Living Room, because they definitely won’t all fit in ours.
