A flurry of Craftsman construction erupted in Portland at the turn of the 20th century as interest in the Victorian era waned.

Sears, Roebuck & Co., the Aladdin Company, and Montgomery Ward were among the many manufacturers of kit homes built across the country as cities rapidly expanded during the first half of the 20th century.

Remnants of this late 19th-century architectural movement still stand in neighborhoods across Portland.

Remnants of the once-popular architectural style can still be found in downtown and Old Town.
