Artists are blazing a vibrant trail through Portland’s Central Eastside Industrial District, casting the district’s spirit and history in fresh color.

Dubbed the Avenue of Murals, the project will see a total of 18 murals installed under bridges in a swath “stretching from the Eastbank Esplanade to Second Avenue on Madison Avenue.” Central Eastside Together commissioned 10 of the murals in partnership with the Portland Street Art Alliance.

Community members were tapped for input on what the new pieces should represent; ultimately, they chose themes representing the Central Eastside’s industrial history. Expect to see imagery like cargo ships and freight trains, as well as floral and wildlife art — each designed to speak to the area’s culture and past.
