Pack up: People are moving to Portland from these US cities

U-Haul rolled out info on 2024 moving trends — and now you just might know a little more about your new neighbors.

A view from high up looking south shows Portland along the Willamette River, with freeways and bridges dominating the center of the frame.

Just look at that — no wonder people are moving here.

Welcome home, fellow Portlanders.

U-Haul — the moving truck company that started in Ridgefield, WA — has released its 2024 mid-year report on migration trends, tracking the origins of U-Haul trucks arriving in the 25 most populated cities in the US, including Portland. Let’s take a look at who’s moved into our city from where — and if you’re new around here, we’ve got even more to share.

So, where are folks coming from? According to U-Haul, here are the top three metropolitan areas outside our state that people are moving to Portland from:

  • Seattle, WA (oh hey, SEAtoday)
  • Los Angeles, CA
  • Phoenix, AZ

Welcome to Oregon, friends. But that’s not all — our fellow Oregonians are also moving around quite a bit. Here are the top three cities within the Beaver State that U-Haul customers are arriving to Portland from:

  • Eugene
  • Salem
  • Bend

Home sweet home
