From drive-by graveyard scenes to scare-you-out-of-your-pants haunted houses, the metro area has plenty of seasonal options

Shadows are growing longer and a chill has crept into the evening air, which can only mean one thing: the spookiest days of the year are at hand.

Portland is rolling out the misty carpet for those looking for a fright this October. We found a ghost-load of themed activities to try, from whimsical neighborhood displays to scare-your-pants-off haunted houses. So say “trick or treat” and reach into the bowl — life’s no fun without a good scare.

Haunted Corn Maze | Bella Organic Farm, 16205 NW Gillihan Rd.
Get lost in acres of cornin the dark — and try to find your way out while being stalked by... something (our money’s on aliens).

Fearlandia | 10860 SW Barnes Rd.
Unsuspecting victims have two walk-through experiences to choose from: “Night Terrors” and “CarnEvil.” A family friendly “Not as Scary Day” will be held Sun., Oct. 23 during the blessed daylight hours.

ScareGrounds PDX | Oaks Amusement Park, 7805 SE Oaks Park Way
Scream your way through three haunted houses (a cinema of horrors, a paranormal manor, and a nightmarish museum). Amusement rides, food and drinks, and fireworks will round out a truly over-stimulating night.

The small city 45 minutes north of Portland transforms into “Halloweentown” each year in honor of the 1998 Disney movie of the same name, which was shot in and around the town.

Jack Skellington might have to turn in his Pumpkin King crown after seeing this display of 200+ carved pumpkins. Strobe lights, lasers, fog, black lights, and music come together at this “rock concert featuring pumpkins as the stars.”

The fruits of this couple’s Halloween-obsessed efforts are on full display at their property, where visitors can admire spook-tacular spectacles from the other side of a fence.

Did you hear that branch just snap? The hairs on the back of your neck will rise on this “level 7 adult scare” hike (it’s less than a mile) through the dark woods.

Watch a horror movie from the safety of your car while sinister things lurk around the parking lot, waiting for that person who just has to open the door to see what’s going on.
